Khata

Your khata, kept by voice note or a one-line message.

Keep a running khata on WhatsApp. Start with an opening balance, then record every deposit and withdrawal as it happens: speak it as a voice note, or type one short line starting with $. Each entry is shown to you before it's saved. Every day has its own opening and closing balance, and you can check the balance or any day or month whenever you like.

The problem

Sound familiar?

Entries pile up in your head all day and get written in the diary at night, if you remember.
Totals are added by hand, and one mistake throws off every day after it.
Checking what happened on a day last month means flipping through pages.
How it works

Step by step, on WhatsApp

1

Voice: just say it

Send a voice note the way you'd say it: in Hindi, Punjabi or Hinglish, with amounts in words. You see what it understood before it's saved.

🎤 “Refreshments ke liye paanch sau nikale” · 0:04
Withdrawal ₹500 — refreshments (aaj) Save karun? ✅ Haan / ❌ Nahi
✅ Haan
✅ Saved. Balance ab ₹41,800
2

Not sure? It asks

If an amount could be heard two ways, it asks instead of guessing. If a note has several entries, or doesn't say deposit or withdrawal, it asks you to send it again.

🎤 “Paytm se paanch sau paanch deposit” · 0:03
₹500 ya ₹505? Dobara bata dijiye.
3

Text: one line with $

Prefer typing? Start the message with $. Add “kal” or a date for an older entry.

$ paytm deposit 4500 kal
Deposit ₹4,500 — paytm (kal) Save karun? ✅ Haan / ❌ Nahi
4

Check any day, week or month

Ask for the balance, one day's entries with the running balance, or totals for a week or a month.

$ balance
Balance: ₹41,800
$ is hafte
Is hafte, day-wise: • 30 Sep — Deposit ₹4,500 · Withdrawal ₹1,200 • 1 Oct — Withdrawal ₹800 … Entries: 9 — Deposit 3 (₹12,500) · Withdrawal 6 (₹3,450)
Who it's for

Does it fit your shop?

🏪

Daily shop expenses

The situation: Chai, transport, labour, refreshments: small amounts all day that never get written down.

With Khata: Speak each one as you spend it. At night the day's closing balance is already there.

🤝

Account with a wholesaler or partner

The situation: A running account where money goes in and out, and both sides argue over the balance.

With Khata: Record every payment and withdrawal the moment it happens. Each day shows its opening and closing figure to settle the balance.

🛵

Owners on the move

The situation: At the market or on a delivery, with no diary to hand.

With Khata: A 5-second voice note from wherever you are, saved only after you tap ✅.

🗣️

Owners who don't like typing

The situation: Typing Hindi on a phone is slow, and the diary is easier.

With Khata: Speak naturally. Amounts in words like “sava do hazaar”, “saade teen sau” or Punjabi numbers are understood.
